Indiana

Who may adopt?
A resident of Indiana may adopt.
A non-resident may adopt a hard to place child.
Husband and wife must petition jointly.

Consent for adoption to be executed?
Consent may be executed any time after the child's birth.

Revocation of consent?
Consent may not be withdrawn after the entry of the adoption decree.
Consent to adoption may be withdrawn no later than 30 days after consent is given, if the court finds that the person seeking the withdrawal is acting in the best interest of the child.

Who may place a child for adoption?
A licensed child-placing agency.
The Division of Family and Children.

Advertising?

Putative Father's Registry?
Yes?The putative father may file before the child's birth, within 30 days after the child's birth, or within 30 days of the date of the filing of a petition for the child's adoption, whichever occurs later.

Expenses?
Birth parent –
Attorney fees.
Hospital and medical costs.
Reasonable expenses for counseling.
Travel and maternity clothes.
Agency fees.
Living expenses.
Lost wages if leaving a job is made necessary by medical complications of the pregnancy.
Compensation for lost wages shall be offset by living expenses paid and any unemployment compensation to which mother is entitled.
Total expenses paid shall not exceed $3,000 unless approved by the court.
Payment of living expenses shall not extend beyond 6 weeks after the birth.

Department/Agency –
The petitioner for adoption must attach to the petition an adoption history fee of $20 and a putative father registry fee of $50, payable to the Department of Health.
